B-Day review [Nov. 1st, 2009|01:31 am]
So yesterday was a great day. My parents and aunts gave me cards  along with some moneyz which was nice. (Hey, I know I sound greedy but can you really blame me considering this economy?) Saw the MJ movie and it was AWESOME!!! Left me shaking my head thinking that concert would've been ON FIRE!! (not literally, but metaphorically; it's a good thing, trust me) I had a feeling after the London shows he would do a stateside concert and settle in Vegas like Celine, Cher, and other big name artists. Vegas would've been a good venue for him. But alas, it wasn't meant to be which is sad.

I went to the Halloween parade at Greenwich Village. I didn't have a costume so I couldn't march in it but had fun watching the costumed people go by. Saw a group of dancers dressed as MJ dancing to his music which was cool. I didn't stay for the whole thing because I couldn't stand getting my way through the crowds and blocked streets. Plus it was about to be POURING rain so...

I didn't see alot of Lady Gaga costumes which was weird since I thought that would be the most popular choice for women, and a news reporter said that it was the most popular in the parade. But I saw a lot of interesting ones. When I was back in Brooklyn in the subway, I saw a guy dressed as Kanye West from te VMAs. He wore a black buttoned-down shirt, had a picture of Taylor Swift taped on his back and a mic in his hand. I gave him a thumbs up. I just had to, it was creative and funny at the same time.

I chickened out of going to the restaurant because I was tired and wanted to get away from the rain. So I went home.

All in all I had a great time. I'll try to make next year more eventful.

Oh, and I wasn't thinking about the wig thing today, but it's still in the back of my mind.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME???? [Oct. 30th, 2009|11:41 pm]
So in about 18 minutes I will be 24 years old. I don't know what to say about that. I'm gonna see the Michael Jackson movie and probably go to dinner at this cool (but quite small) restaurant I've been eyeing near town. Now I know what some of you are saying, Why don't you go see Paranormal Activity or Saw 6 instead? Sorry, mama doesn't do horror films. I don't care if it's awesome or that it's Halloween.
Speaking of which, hmm, maybe I'll check out the Halloween parade at Greenwich village.
I don't have a costume and honestly I don't plan on getting one. It'll probably take forever to get one at this time (There's like a line AROUND THE BLOCK at a Ricky's store where I live, so yeah) and I don't really have the creative will to dress as someone else.  Sad, I know.

Here's what I've been toying with getting. Call me crazy but...I'm thinking about getting a wig. Not a crazy Halloween one but something to wear when I don't want to wrap my head and wear a hat the whole day. You see, my hair is growing a little but now it's braided and I don't want to show it outside, nor do I want to wrap my hair all the time.

Look, I'm not really a wig/weave kinda girl. The only time I put fake/real hair on top of my own hair was when I got extensions in junior high school. I wore a wig after I got the braids out because my hair was out of whack. Oddly enough, it was a braided wig. Where was I? Oh yeah, not a big wig chick. I'm more of a work-with-whatcha-got instead of a if-you-don't-got-it-create-it chick. But I've been seeing a lot of women with wigs/weaves on and they look so cute. I can't get into the weave thing because it's gonna be expensive and I'm not sure I'd like the experience of having hair sewn/glued on my hair. I'll let you know if I go through with it. That's it for now. Happy Halloween if I don't post tomorrow.

This song is in my head now [Oct. 6th, 2009|11:20 pm]

...ever since I first heard it in a store when I was continuing my quest for the perfect jeans. Surprised I haven't heard it on the radio lately.
It's "Breathe Slow" by Alesha Dixon.

Jeans and other stuff [Oct. 5th, 2009|12:42 am]
OK so either I lost some weight, or the clothing designers are playing tricks on me. See, I'm trying on jeans because the pair I'm wearing now are too big on me. They're a size 11 Target brand skinny jeans. I usually wear a 9 but the 9 was a bit too tight on me so I chose the 11, thinking that it'll shrink to fit me perfectly after a few washes. Well, it's still baggy so I'm looking for some new jeans. I tried a pair of 9/10s at Aeropostale, and guess what? They were a bit loose on me! Hm. So I tried a pair of 7/8s and they fit. I also had the same experience at another store. The 9s were baggy and the 7s were fit. But then I remembered trying a pair of size 9 heans at Target and they seemed to fit pretty well. Odd. I didn't buy any jeans yet, still shopping around. If I lost weight, which I doubt because even though I exercise a little bit with yoga and walking and taking the stairs instead of the elevator all the time, then yay? But I think it's more of the designers messing with you. I remember reading an article in the paper, I think USA Today?, about designers playing with size numbers to give the shopper the illusion that she's skinnier than she really is.

I'm doing another internship because I need the credits to finally (hopefully) complete all my requirements for my Bachelor's in Communications. I work for a small book publishing company owned by the person who I learned about this and the other internship I did in the summer from. Yay! It's a bit tedious for now, just putting lists of email addresses and doing some research and stuff, but it's good experience. I'm still not satisfied with where I am right now in life. I think I should make a list of goals I want to acheive so I won't lose track.

There are so many films I want to see now. Since I came back to NYC from college,  I've only seen 2 films so far; Star Trek and The Proposal.
I want to see the Toy Story/Toy Story 2 double feature; brings back memories and I want to see what the third film will look like. I also want to see Good Hair, a documentary Chris Rock made about the things black women do to their hair. It looks funny. Here's the trailer:

I'm also dying to see The Princess and the Frog. Yes I know it's a kiddie Disney film, but COME ON! It's the first Disney animated film IN 2-D since like what 2000? And the first with a princess, and lead character, whose BLACK! I don't want to make a huge speech about race but I just feel it's about damn time. I've been really excited about the film since I saw the teaser trailer:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rjtdl1a_Jqc
But then I saw the full trailer:
And I got a little bummed that the princess turned to a frog. NO IT'S NOT A SPOILER IF YOU SEE IT ON THE TRAILER!*points above* But I'll still check it out.

That's all I got for now. I'll keep you posted in a few months.

If anyone is watching Wimbledon right now (Roddick v. Federer), can u tell me what is TAKING SO LONG??!!

I mean 7-5 6-7 6-7 6-3 14-15(!!!) is just plain ridiculous.
ETA: Those scores on Roddick's side (sorry if that doesn't make any sense, I'm not good with the sports analysis lingo). So far Federer is leading. It would be pretty awesome to see him win (he'd be the most winningest person in tennis so far with 15(!) grand-slam titles), but it'd be awesome to see Roddick kick his ass and (finally) win one Wimbledon.
... Oop, just found out Federer won. Congrats RF!

I know, I know long time no see.. [Jun. 25th, 2009|11:28 pm]

Hi peeps! Yea, I know it's been a while since I re-entered the LJ community (speaking of which, happy 10th LJ!), and I apologize. I've been busy trying to get an internship so I can (finally) be done with school (long story). Now I'm busy job hunting. And now that I've left wonderful wi-fi Internet access SUNY Geneseo to semi-crappy access here at home, I don't have the best coverage so I don't stay online much. Still haven't found a job yet but still searching. I know there's not much out there now thanks to the shitty economy so I can't be picky. I just want to make some dough before I try to nab another intership (Tyra Banks Show is looking for fall interns, *fingers crossed*). There's so many things I want to do but can't due to financial situations so I need to focus on getting the moneyz, first.

In other news, I haven't seen any film here in NYC except for Star Trek, which was AWESOME. I wanted to see The Proposal, just because it looked silly and I now have a thing for Ryan Reynolds, but reviews were mixed so we'll see. Was thinking about seeing that new Transformers movie but I dunno, it looked like too much work to get through all that. I also wanted to see the Night at The Museum sequel but...FOCUS ON DA MONEYZ!!!

Great to see MP getting back to kickin' ass and takin' names in swimming (and lookin' good in the process :0)). But it was soooooo kewl to see Lochte kick his butt in that one race. Thank you Univeral Sports for repeats!

So sad to hear the loss of Michael Jackson. I was also saddened by Farrah Fawcett's and Ed (Hi-oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh) Mcmahon's death but MJ got to me the most because it was so unexpected, ya know? When I saw the news of him in the hospital, I was interested, but then a little annoyed at first because I thought, "Oh boy, here we go, making mountains out of molehills". Because they said he was sick and I can understand that because he hasn't been the same healthwise as when he was younger. But then the news broke of his death and I was like, "Whoa". Love him or hate him but you can't deny that he really was something else.

Awright, that's enough for now. See you in a few months. ;p

Only this band can pull off and Aaliyah song [Apr. 2nd, 2009|11:31 pm]
Seriously.

For those who don't know, The Gossip is a band from the South who plays really awesome music. Kinda like The Yeah Yeah Yeahs but with a slight Southern edge. For those who don't know Aaliyah, she was this popular R&B artist who worked with Timbaland and Missy Elliott to churn out hits like the original version of the song.

Love how a rock band can cover an R&B song and make it sound good (or possibly better). That's TRUE talent right there.

In case any of you was wondering... [Mar. 31st, 2009|11:30 pm]

I had to delete my last entry (you know, the one with the Crazy Frog, bestest song EVER btw ;)) out of failed attempts to put the clip under an LJ-cut. I figured, "Ah, screw it. Let's not torture these good people any longer," and decided to squash the entry. Sorry to those who enjoyed the song (ahem, valleyj). ;p

Meanwhile, I'm guessing this is a good time to let out some thoughts. I hear this talk of a major virus hitting computers ('specially PCs) tomorrow and I'm kinda worried. I scanned my computer recently and found nothing wrong thank goodness. Hope the same goes for tomorrow. Mom says that the only thing she knows about the virus is that it'll enter your computer in e-mail form. Thanks but I wanna know what the email will say! *sigh* Oh well, I better be careful.

I got my haircut recently. Actually, I got it cut the first day I was at home for Spring Break. It's pretty short. just went to a barbershop and asked to chop it all off. I'm not bald, mind you. But my hair is pretty short. I don't have a camera with me but I'm pretty sure my hair looks more like this:
except maybe a tad shorter. My hair previously was a little longer, but not too much. And it was pretty shitty so I decided to start a clean slate with my hair and go short. Honestly, I like it very much. I don't have to worry to much about combing it, styling it, putting accessories on it, etc. I could wet my hair without haing to overly dry it wit products, it's a pretty freeing feeling (LOL, imagine how that sounds off the tongue!). And I'm getting a lot of compliments from people, which is cool. I might keep it.

I'm graduating in May. I kinda have mixed feelings about this. I wanted to stay a little longer to complete a minor in the Computer Science field but can't for financial reasons. I'm having a degree in Communications, which technically I haven't finished yet. U see, I was supposed to take at least 4 courses in the 300-level in the field, but only took 3. So I'm thinking of taking one in the summer in a school close to home and transfer the credits to this school. I'm kinda pissed because I thought I met that requirement but oh well.

Like I said, I'm having mised feelings because I don't know what I'll do next. Obvy I'm gonna go take the class to be officially finished with my degree, and possibly work on getting my driver's license (yes, it's sad I hadn't got one already, I know), and it's obvious I'll work, but it's only assuming that there's jobs available that I can do. I don't think I need to remind you guys about the state of the economy here, and pretty much everywhere else in the world. Plus I'll be staying home with my parents. FUN! Hate to admit this but, pretty much the main reason why I went upstate for college was to get away from my folks, and from NYC in general. I love my parents to death, don't get me wrong, but I can't see myself surviving mentally if I'm still there for a huge chunk of my life. No matter how much my dad says he misses me over the phone. *sighs* yeah. I also liked being able to live on my own and see what that's like. Honestly, I think this is the best thing that's ever happened to me. Now I know that I can be OK living independently in the future. I doubt that I would have the same feeling if I stayed at home during this time.

That's pretty much all I have to say for now. I'll think of something witty to say later.

This song is so me:

...and it's sad. Love her voice, the album, Pretty much everything about her.

Oh and, Holly's right. Dude is a beast.

Hope Heath wins for Best Supporting Actor. But I kinda doubt it. The Oscars don't really care much about anything related to blockbuster films, except for visuals. But everyone pretty much said that TDK was a respectable film so who knows, ya know? I'll try to watch it while I'm studying for my aaccounting test Tues.

Et tu, Chris Brown? [Feb. 9th, 2009|03:53 pm]
Wow, what has this world coming to? We can't trust Olympic stars and now POP STARS??? Come ON!!!!
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/02/08/chris-brown-assault-incid_n_165049.html

But seriously though, I'm kinda shocked about this one. According to some sources (yeah they were tabloids and all, but some officials did give legitimate statements), Chris Brown was reportedly making verbal and physical threats to a woman who's supposedly girlfriend Rihanna. He turned himself in to the authorities, posted bail, and is due back in court in March.

http://www.usmagazine.com/news/rihanna-identified-as-alleged-victim-in-chris-brown-assault

Now Wrigley's suspending all ad campaigns with him in it. I'm not a huge fan of CB (I think he's cute and talented but he's more someone to be popular with the teenyboppers than with people in my age group), but I'm kinda shocked to see this. In most of his public appearances, he didn't seem to be a thuggish guy. Some people who knew him also felt the same way, saying, "He's a good kid. Well brought up." But then again... he always seemed to me as a Two-face kinda guy. He always seemed to brand his image as not too goody-goody but not too badass. Sort of like a G you can take home to Moms. I always had issue with this aminly because I think he did this for career reasons. It's like his people thought he couldn't just be te cutesy pop guy because it won't sell much, but he can't just be the 50 Cent of R&B because that wouldn't sell either. All I'm saying is pick one, CB. Either you're the gangster or the nice guy, but you can't have both.

But this... This scares me.

About Phelps. I was kinda kidding about what I wrote before the first link. I actually see past this whole image he supposedly put himslef before everyone, this All-American loves-his-mommy-and-sports-and-dog-sweet-as-apple-pie schtick. Yeah overall I think he's a good person despite his mistakes, but with flaws. I was kinda amused when others criticizing him of playing against his image by the women he's dating, the gambling, partying, and now this marijuana scandal. I mean, please, you think he's gonna stay home with Mommy and Herman only to leave for public appearances?! Come on, the man (I repeat, MAN) is 23 y.o., spent a HUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEE chunk of his life in the pool, therefore I'm not surprised that he's acting the way he was. It was only a matter of time before he gets back to his daily routine of eat, sleep, swim, so I wasn't bothered too much about it. And to be honest, I kind of agree with some sentiments said by some over at MPF that Kellogg's dropped him over financial reasons, and just played the "moral" card to save face. With complaints about their products being tainted with salmonella, and the fact that the products with his face on them didn't seem to sell that quickly (they didn't seem to make that many of them. I could count in my hand the many I saw with his face on it, next to those with Leann Rimes on no less, compared to the countless products without him. I mean, if you're gonna pay a him a hefty price to put his face on your products, shouldn't it make sense that he'd be plastered on at least over 60% of them? Come on!), I'd guess that their hands were tied and had to do what they had to do. But that's not stopping people from calling a boycott to Kellogg's, including
these guys. It seems like a good idea. I don't know if I'm not food with going through with it given the fact that I loves me some Rice Krispies and Nutrigrains. I swore I would boycott Walmart after hearing aboutthis storyon Youtube. I haven't gone in a while but who's to say if I'd continue this promise. Oh, I read on the top of that WalmartWatch.com page that they actually dropped all litigation charges and allowed the family to keep the money! Yay for them. But I did hear alot of bad news about the corporation from time to time, so maybe I won't shop there anymore. Assuming I'll keep that promise. BTW, I ♥ Philip Defranco so much! You should subscribe to his channel if you wanna laugh and get kind of a clearer sense of what's going on in this crazy-ass world.

Anyways, I'm rambling. The point is I don't buy that MP-can't-and-shouldn't-do-know-wrong-because-he's-the-most-decorated-Olympian-ever-plus-infinity!!!1 rule that most people seems to agree on. Yeah sure pot's not the best thing to put in your system, and some might question your behavior when you're supposedly the example of premier health & fitness because you're an athlete.

But, to cut this looooooooooooooooooooonnnggg ass post short, at least he didn't hit a chick.

My thoughts on MP and Caz [Jan. 10th, 2009|11:57 pm]

OK, I know it's not fun discussing this over and over again but I just wanted to gel something with you regarding this subject before I go to bed. After reading a well-satisfying MP fanfic from [info]sassy_x_lassie (thanks hun for all the good dreams!), I took a nap and woke up with a slight a-ha moment.  Maybe the reason why MP's dating someone like Caz, or someone so lovingly call her, Slunkmeat, is that he doesn't think dating a respectable woman would be a good thing. Think about it. A respectable woman is also known as the nice girl you'd bring home to Mom, who's also known as someone who has long-term-girlfriend potential. Which is what Phelps may not want now since he's not ready for a long-term relationship. Remember him saying time and time again that he plans on training early this year, since he plans on competing for many swimming events, including some in the London 2012 Olympics. And I think we all know how hard core he trains. Every. Damn. Day. Including holidays, birthdays, etc. And we all hear from him time and again that when he's not training he's lazy because he spends most of his energy training. And I remember hearing him say in an old Matt Lauer interview that he doesn't have a girlfriend while he's in training because he thinks it's a distraction. And I'm sure Bob feels the same way. I remember reading an old article from ESPN that reported Bob giving him lectures about girls and while Phelps was annoyed with them, he listened nonetheless.

My point is this: Maybe his relationship with this chick is friend-with-benefits or, no-strings-attached for all the points I've made above. If this is the chick that he's planning on having a long-term relationship with, then I'd be a bit worried. But if he's looking for some fun, then I honestly don't see what's the big deal. Sure, he could've chosen someone classier, but if it's not gonna last, then why bother worrying about his image. Like someone else said a while back, there are worse things a celeb such as MP can be tied to, such as doing drugs or engaging in illegal activities. He's made a slightly bigger slip-up 4 years ago and made amends. Now I don't see why this should tar his image more so than that other incident.

OK, that's my two cents. It's possible that I'm overthinking this so feel free to comment on whether you agree or disagree with my statements.

That's it.

LOVE THIS SONG!! [Oct. 15th, 2008|05:09 pm]

I wanna get this song but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Apparently the song came out a long time ago on radio but the album isn't released yet. So the track's not released yet. Hmm, how odd. Anyway, it's Swiss Beatz with a Coldplay sample "That Oprah"

Two things [Oct. 10th, 2008|12:53 am]

1. I know that we're not supposed to be all about the gossip when it comes to Mr. Phelps, but I just couldn't resist showing this to you guys after I read it from my Google alerts. It's basically a little blurb in the New York Post's Page Six column that repeats similar stuff about Phelps in the Bowlmor Lanes thing a couple of nights ago. Nothing I've read surprised me until I came upon with this line:
One bold admirer stepped forward to rub his tummy.

Now wasn't she lucky?! I'm assuming that was a she.

2. I skimmed through the special SI magazine that's all about MP (sorry, fellow Phelpsites, but as much as I love the man, I just couldn't bring myself to shell out twelve bucks for the mag. *shields herslef to protect from the stones*), when I came upon the second to last page or so, where he talks about his plans after winning all those medals. I think he said something like, "I'm just gonna sit in a beach and do nothing. I'm gonna eat alot and put on weight and not care," Which got me to thinking. Now we know he doesn't really mean it because we've (or at least some of us) also read articles in which he says that he's planning to work out more. But still, I couldn't help but wonder: no matter how amazed we are by his accomplishments, I think it's safe to say that we're more amazed by how GOT-DAMN UNBELEIVEABLY FOINE this man is! So I ask you ladies (and gents?). Would you still heart this man if he stopped looking like this:

SPIT!!! [Oct. 2nd, 2008|06:01 pm]

Remember this jam? Spit was an old card game from back in the day., I remember playing this in junior high with my friends. I didn't know until recently that it's actually called "Speed" instead of Spit. That makes sense though because you do have to fast to play the game and win. But Spit sounds funnier so, I'll go with that.

So anyway, SPIT!
